It's good to hear from a fellow investor from Singapore here! Singapore's real estate market is white-hot and I've been investing out-of-country. I currently have 5 SFH in Memphis and looking around (globally) for more opportunities.

If anyone's in Singapore, I don't mind meeting up with like-minded people. Just drop me a PM and we can discuss!

Interesting! I'm a Singaporean, living in Singapore, and just started investing in the US after getting disillusioned with the REI market in Singapore

Hi everyone! Good knowing so many people are from/in Singapore! I'm a Singaporean, residing in Singapore, and currently getting my LLC set up before I start buying property in the USA.

I was just looking at the "better yielding" properties in Singapore. $720k for a freehold 1-bedroom condo, rents for $2400 a month. Mind-boggling! On the plus side of things, mortgage interest rates are only 1.6%, but still, people are snapping up these units as investment property.

Anyway, if anyone in Singapore wants to meet up for a beer, let me know!

Cheers!

Hi @Hwee Shin ! Nice to see a fellow Singaporean here! BP is very much geared towards the US market, and that's the main reason why all of us are here. There are many ways to start real estate investment too (flipping, renting, etc - it all depends on what you want), and you should read up on all of this - BP has many guides that can help.

@Dean Letfus Belllum Tan? Can't say I do, but I'm pretty new to REI.

Wow! Too close to home! Funny how I find out about a piece of news about my home country from BP first, rather than my local publications.

Post: LLC or Umbrella Policy, HELP!

I'm an international investor, and I'm having the same dilemma.

LLCs cost more, have more admin overhead, and require one LLC per property, or one LLC per state. Besides which, may not offer the protection that it's supposed to have, and doesn't protect me against estate taxes. I'm really thinking of just buying the first few properties under my personal name, and just getting an umbrella policy.

At least, I can start this way, and like @Darrell Shepherd says, restructure in the future after I get a few properties under my name.

Was this the way you ultimately went ahead with, @Jonathan G. ?

@Jay Hinrichs That's fantastic news, I'll drop you a PM

@Ali Boone Thanks for the info! I'll drop you a PM. Interesting fact - I actually think I stumbled upon your blog while I was researching this whole thing before haha!

@Alex Alex Yes, that's one of the ways that I was looking into doing as well. In fact, CA has one of the highest costs of LLCs IIRC (something that I learn from Ali Boone). The article she wrote, and the comments, should shed some light on this. It's on BP too: http://www.biggerpockets.com/renewsblog/2013/08/17/rental-properties-llc/
