@Ariel Smith Thank you Ariel! I looked into it and the Groupon isn't being offered right now but I like how they give a person 2 YEARS to finish, although I hope I'll be shooting for 6-9 months.

Does anyone have any suggestions in where I should take my classes to get licensed? In the San Jose south bay area.

@Ryan Landis Thanks for the advice, Ryan, I connected with someone to help me get started.

@Ryan Landis Yeah, it's definitely vacant. It is really boarded up and looks as if it's suffered light burn. The front yard is also fenced off.

@Chris Townley I do not know who is paying the taxes. Thanks for the solid advice! It'll be on my checklist for tomorrow!

@Tina Pollard Thanks, I'll look into a local title company if I have to.

@Tina Pollard No, I am not using any tools currently. I am just driving, looking at houses, and finding out the owners at the local county assessor's office.

Hello, I have been driving for dollars and found a home that is in distress. After going to the local county assessor to look up the information, I have found out the owner's name but they have passed away YEARS ago. I checked the tax on the property and someone has been paying for the property's taxes for a few years but stopped recently. What do I do now? What do I need to do to find out who is in control of the property and how could I make an offer? This is in San Jose, CA.

Hello everyone,

Long time listener to the Podcast but I'm new to the BiggerPockets site. I'm a 21 year old college student from Sacramento, CA but moved to Monterey, CA for college. I'm interested in investing in (say that 3 times fast!) Northern CA specifically because I live here and drive back and forth. I want to start in the SF Bay Area and hopefully expand to all of CA.
