Post: Advice on my first move

I came across bigger pockets a few months ago and I became excited about getting into REI. Since then I've been listening to podcasts, reading books, and doing research online when I'm not working. I've learned quite a bit in my research and I will continue to learn as much as I can on my own. I am still figuring out how I can achieve my goal of ultimately owning multiples rental properties. Joining a team would my ideal first move, I just don't know where to start. I am currently looking for a mentor who can help me fill in the gaps of what it takes to be a smart investor so if you have even a little bit of experience under your belt, it would be great to learn a thing or two about your experience! Thank you!

P.S.: I know one of the first suggestions will be to join an REI meeting and see what it is like. I don't know if I am comfortable yet in joining one not knowing what to expect. So if someone is willing to chat online first, that would be great!

I do not have *extensive* knowledge of landlord laws in the states where I own rental properties, I just know that the states I am in have more landlord-friendly laws and I make sure to have reputable property management companies that I trust to know and follow the laws.

Some investors might say that's a mistake, but that's how I have done things so far!

May I ask how many rental properties you have? Did you ever rent out without using property management?

Excuse these novice questions...

Being a landlord and renting out properties to tenants, how familiar are you with the laws on renting? Does having property management take away pressure from having extensive knowledge on the law of being a landlord? How much do laws vary from state to state or even city to city for landlord tenant laws?

Hello all,

My name is Allan and I'm looking to learn more in RE investing. I recently purchased my first primary residence, which triggered me to learn more about real estate. I've listened to a few BiggerPockets podcast now just joined this website in hope of learning more about real estate and building a network. I am specifically want to learn more about buy and holds. Excited to see what I can learn!
