I suppose my concern is finding established STR areas that have lower risks of shutting down operations. I understand that everything has inherent risks and we want to pull the trigger on something--but I suppose it gets me more nervous because I feel like the desperation is starting to get me thinking recklessly.

I'm debating on Ithaca--it's a bit of a hike to get there, but assuming I'll be having PM take care of day to day, I figure if the numbers work then maybe I make the move. I still haven't dug into how strict they are with STR though...

this is refreshing to hear. I was starting to feel like I was crazy for wanting to buy something upstate--it seemed like most were starting to look elsewhere so I was wondering if the money/bookings were drying up here.

Hi y'all,

I finally got my wife to be on board with investing into real estate, and we are looking to jump into short term rentals. As NYC makes STR illegal, are people avoiding upstate New York as well?
