I know this is an old thread but this is so inspiring I had to say something. I hope your son and family are doing great. His mental attitude towards life is amazing. Keep supporting him like I'm sure you do.

Hi All, glad to be part of BP. I will be scouting a new county this weekend in search for buy and hold opportunities. My question is, what is the best approach to finding good deals and learning the area? I plan on driving around and maybe seeing a few houses but is there something else I could do? Any tips? Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in this as well. Can anybody with experience take a look?

I say do both. If you find a deal that is right then jump on it. Otherwise, dedicate a bit more money every month towards your loans but don't empty your accounts to pay them off right away.

Hi all, thanks for all the valuable info in this thread. It seems Central Florida is where cash flow is still alive. I'm an investor in South Florida as well and I'm looking to move to Tampa or its surrounding neighborhoods so that I have better access to Central Florida areas.

I'm definitely scouting Lakeland in the near future as well as some of the other counties mentioned here (Hillsborough, Pasco, Sumter Lake, Volusia, and Orange counties).
