@Account Closed, I realize that I am revealing my inexperience here, but I am curious what you mean: if not for cash flow, for what should we be investing? Thanks.

Hi all, thanks for the kind welcomes! @Account Closed, I'd like to start small, with a SFH (or 2- or 3- flat if the price is right), and build from there. I'm a little bit nervous about SFH investing, as all of my experience to date is with 2- 3- and 4-plexes. However, I also understand that, particularly in Chicago, multi-units might be out of my price range. As far as location, I'll consider anything that's a reasonable drive from Chicago, but the closer the better.

Hi BiggerPockets,

I'm an attorney who is somewhat new to the nuts and bolts of real estate investing (it's been 2 years since I got dropped in the deep end), but I've been exposed to it my whole life. My father and I spent many summer days rehabbing and doing repairs on the few rental units that my parents owned. I currently own a handful of doors in rural northern California (where I grew up), but I am looking to expand my portfolio a little bit closer to where I have settled down, here in Chicago.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from the forums, the podcasts, and the webinars, along with building my network!
