My wife and I are looking at purchasing our first investment home to use as a short term rental as we live in a high tourist area and know several people that have been successful in this. We have been looking into several ways to finance the home and we came across a commercial real estate investment loan. It sounds like it would be a 15 year term with interest somewhere between 4-5%. With our 20% down and the loan being up to 80% of the value of the home it would allow us to fully purchase the home and only have the loan payment. I have never heard of this before and was wondering if it has any benefit compared to a conventional mortgage.
