This is very inspirational. I am excited to see young people doing this. Kids usually dont do this stuff with their money. It shows that it is very well possible to pay cash for good investments. Shes starting small and I am sure she will be awesome.

I am a newb with no experience. However:

As already stated, ownership should not even be in question since he didnt put up anything of value.

My belief is that if he was truly concerned and wanted to see you do well, he would coach you and be less concerned about getting fees or ownership off your deal, especially if he is good enough to make money with his own investments. I am sure that he could very well be a nice and creditable mentor; however, 50% ownership sounds like you could be shortchanging yourself since you could outright completely own it and seek other PMs if you need those services.
