Goal Setting- Are You Doing These 5 Things?

Goal Setting: Are you doing these 5 things?

If you are executing you are getting closer to your goals. Daily wins will lead to long term success. Success is a marathon, not a sprint. The key is knowing it may takes days, weeks, years to reach a specific goal. Understand that you need to enjoy the process as well as trust the process. Mindset is critical to goal setting. First, you need to believe your goals are possible, and they can even scare you!

Goals can and should be in many areas of life, not just limited to financial, personal, health, relationship etc. I would advocate against a specific focus on one area since this will impact your other goals. You want to be 100% committed in each goal. Be present.
1.How To Set Goals
A goal that cannot be reversed engineered is worthless. Your yearly goal can become a quarterly/ monthly/weekly/daily goal. For example if you want to lose 20 pounds in 12 weeks. Ask yourself why did you pick the timeframe? Why did you pick 20 pounds?
Knowing that your diet is in your control. Do you plan on not counting calories and hope getting results or planning out meals, using an app such as my fitness pal and take 10 seconds to put each food in your daily food log. Which do you think will get better results? Next, should goals be reasonable and achievable?
2. Limiting Beliefs
Goal should be big without limiting beliefs. When they are larger, you push yourself to take massive action towards them. Grant Cardone calls this 10x. Don’t just say I want to create 2 additional income streams in a year. You may become hesitant and not do anything since you created one in a month and have 11 months to create the second one! If you change this to 20 income streams even if you fall short in a year, you will destroy your small limiting belief goal of 2. Next, your attention needs to be on your goals.
3. See Them Daily
See your goals daily. Do this by either writing them down, or having an app such as rewire send you your goals multiple times a day. You can set the app to remind you or the habit/goal multiple times a day. This puts your attention on your goals.
Writing down goals is another option. You can even write them down as completed so your mind stars believing you have achieved them! I guarantee if you consistently write down your goals you be closing to achieving your goals then one who writes then down only Jan 1 of every year.
4. Deep Work
Understand deep work. How are you most productive when you work? In deep work, limit all distractions and you have one task with all your focus. No checking phones, emails, calls, etc. Here you can purely focus and not shift your attention on technology. With time, you will know if you work best in 15 min, 30 min, or 1 hour intervals. Everyone is different which bring me to my last point of the ability to self access.
5. Self Access
This is the most difficult factor in goal setting. We tend to fall off track with out goals around late January. We just are not committed to the process and put them off to next year. Daily or weekly review of your productive activities and unproductive activities will help you plan your next week. You want to plan out what needs to be executed for the week.
Final Tip
If you really want to push yourself towards a goal put a dollar amount on it. For example- I want to lose 10 pounds in the next 60 days and keep it off. Instead of just competing with yourself, put between $500–$1000 down with a colleague and tell them if you do not hit your goal, you will hand then then $500–$1000. The key here is to pick an amount of money you wouldn’t want to lose!
Hopefully this is helpful! I would be excited to hear if you find success with these strategies. If you enjoyed, please leave a comment.
