What are you reading today to be successful?
One of my favorite topics to discuss with fellow business leaders and investing enthusiasts is books. Whenever I have a chance to meet with someone I look up to in the business world I always ask them "What is your favorite book?" Such a simple question but one that delves deep into the mind of a successful business mind.
Here in the real estate investing landscape most everyone has read books like "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", "The Richest Man in Bablyon" or "Think and Grow Rich" as those are all investing classics to get anyone motivated and started in their investing career. The question then arises, what do you read after you are done with the basics?
I have learned some of the greatest lessons in business in books completely unrelated to real estate, finance, and business, but in the intangible works that are recommended to me by fellow business leaders. So, next time you are out networking ask what people are reading, and try their recommendations out. You will be surprised how far it takes the depth of your knowledge in life and then in business.

I read the Aggressive Tax… book and it was pretty good. At one point he claims that taking title solely in one’s name is the best way, which is complete rubbish in my book. There is a pretty compelling reasoning for being aggressive and for explanation of who makes the laws, who enforces them, etc. He also covers esoteric REI topics that would be difficult to find information on elsewhere. Installment sales were covered pretty thoroughly from what I remember.

Charles, do you recommend Reed's book? Are the strategies truly aggressive?

Most of my current reading has been on federal income tax issues for real estate investors. I review the US Master tax guide, irs website and been reviewing John Reed's book "Aggressive Tax Avoidance for Real Estate Investors."

Jon - The Millionaire Real Estate Investor has to be one of my favorites too - I'm just getting through reading it for the second time.

If you end up reading Nickerson's book please let me know what you think of it Jon. I have about 5-7 books in queue right now, but I would like to get to it after that if you like it. Otherwise I will put it off a bit.

You and me both Jon. I don't think the transition is an overnight thing. i started out doing everything myself and have been slowly hiring out more work. I do like to be involved though, it keeps me young. :)

The E Myth also influenced me. I applied the principles to my IT business, but I still need to use them in my newer REI endeavors.

I've heard Nickerson recommended a number of times. I need to pick it up . We know Mr.Reed is hard to please.

I have also heard great things about Nickerson's, "How I Turned..." book. Reed says that is one of his favorites so it is good enough for me!

I recently finished The Millionaire Real Estate Investor. What impressed me was all the case studies of ordinary people who built substantial wealth and income through acquiring SFRs. Not sophisticated, but effective. Also stories of those who not only be ame REI millionaires, but some who got to the million dollar a month income level.

Love the Emyth books. I am actually going back to reread RDPD for the 4th time. The book that changed my direction in life was "Coach Yourself to Success by Talane Miedaner. That book led me to RDPD and REI and different ways to look at life. I still follow her on FB and her weekly emails.
