From an Engineering Job to Investor Managing Thousands of Units

Our previous podcast guest came all the way to the states from Australia, he moved back in 2012. He is a structural engineer, that's his background, so he moved to the United States without a job, no network, pounded the streets of New York City until he got a job. The book that really helped him to grow as an entrepreneur was Rich Dad Poor Dad and when he first moved here, he was just like wow, you know you can buy property for fifty thousand bucks and it can cash flow positive.

This was back in 2012 and since then he flipped a few houses subsequently, left his day job and actually transitioned into being an owner's rep at a larger development firm in Los Angeles where he spent three years doing that. He moved to learn essentially the ropes of the big dogs in the real estate development world, whilst also doing his own syndication on the side and he is now gone full time for the last couple of years with Wildhorn Capital and his business partner Andrew Campbell where they currently have a 1,600 units under management,t about a hundred and fifty million dollars worth of US multifamily.

He moved halfway across the world in 2012 and seven years later he achieved financial freedom and control over $150 million and it's not to impress, it's just more to inspire if he can come here with no funds, no network, can go to school here, didn't have a family here and if he can make it happen, then so can the average Joe and they can get off the fence and get out there and get going, he says. He went out there and effectively used a platform like podcasting or get his message out there because when he first moved to the United States he struggled back in 2012, there was a lot of issues that he had to go through, he didn't know what credit was, he didn't know what LLC was, the banks wouldn't lend, so he had a bit of a story to tell it, where he moved,  burned the boats, quit his job in Australia, his very well-paying engineering job and moved halfway across the world for love.

So when he first went out there started raising capital it was about trying to build a foundation of investors who want to listen. He was talking to international investors about the benefits of investing here, so he started his own podcast, investing in the US, where he started getting a reach static, being consistent with his message and then over time it just slowly snowballed and people heard the snowball effect, where all of a sudden something happens and you've been consistent for two, three, four or five years and all of a sudden it just it's an avalanche down the hill and that's really what it's been like for him.
