Trustworthy Real Estate Agent

With so many real estate companies available to help you sell a property, it’s often hard to find the right one for you. However, as with any relationship, trust is the key. Trust is often cited as the most important aspect of a relationship and it remains true regardless of whether it falls under a personal or business relationship.

In most cases your real estate agent will be the main point of contact for both the seller and the buyer in any deal. There are several things that you need to take into consideration to make sure you're happy with the REALTOR® you hire to represent you and you’re your best interests.

The immediate concern that needs to be addressed to ensure trust exists within your working relationship is what will be expected from one another. Yes, even you as a client must meet your end of a trust worthy relationship. Depending on the agreement you have there may be some things that you cannot do - and some things that you must do. To enter into a representation relationship, the real estate agent and the seller or buyer must sign a contract which states what is expected of each party. One such example is exclusivity, where you cannot work with more than one real estate agent during an allotted time. Often the agreement will be around eight weeks but this will vary depending on the circumstances regarding the type of purchase. A home may take up to one year to construct, depending on the price range, and of course, other circumstances may arise.

Having a trusting relationship with your real estate agent often helps with the sale. This opens up your willingness to co-operate and feel safe in the knowledge that they have your best interests at heart. Hand in hand with trust is honesty. If you have doubts over what you're being told, ask questions. An honest person never finds it offensive to be asked something that may simply be misunderstood.

Like your parents always said, “Trust your gut instincts!” The best advice I can give you is to agree to a shorter time frame, maybe three days or so to see if you “click” with your real estate agent. If so, you can always extend your agreement with a simple form. If your working relationship has taken a turn for the worse and the time period of your agreement has not been met, talk with the broker about what the current issues are and discuss the option of working with another agent within the same firm. You would be surprised at how fast you can get results.

One would never go to a physician or a lawyer they can’t trust; why should a professional REALTOR® be expected of anything less than the ETHICS standard we agree to adhere to?
