Curious if Boise made the list to top 100 cities? Click here to see where we landed (Spoiler Alert: We're still looking good). Downtown Boise Association's Executive Director, Jennifer Hensley is quoted in the article as saying "Boise has the luxuries of both a mountain town and a big city, accessible within minutes. You can mountain bike before work, fly fish over lunch, and then enjoy a meal from a James Beard nominated chef in the evening with a glass of award-winning Idaho wine." And we fully agree!

To pull together a list of the top U.S. cities for outdoor enthusiasts to live (and work), the team at SmartAssets compared 96 cities across numerous metrics, including: housing costs as a percentage of income, five-year change in median household income, July 2020 unemployment rate, percentage of commuters who walk or bike to work, nature parks and campgrounds per 100,000 residents, air pollution, etc. We weren't overly surprised to see that Boise made the top 10.

Idaho’s State Parks Saw More Visitors than Ever Before; Improvements Planned

According to the Idaho States Park department, Idaho's 30 state parks are experiencing record-breaking visitation. Pete Black, chairman of the Idaho Parks and Recreation Board, is quoted as saying that the "Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding will greatly ease the burden." The four parks currently slated to receive repair improvements are: Thousand Springs, Priest Lake, Farragut and Bear Lake.

One of our favorite Meridian parks just got a new addition! Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park's six-piece outdoor gym, designed to "to incorporate all the elements of a well-rounded fitness routine and to be accessible by users of all ages, fitness levels and abilities" has been installed and is ready for use.

Boise's Average Rent Increased by 5.5.% in the Past Year, Still Lower than the National Average

According to a study by apartmentlist.com, rental fees in Boise have seen a year-over-year increase of 5.5%. This analysis notes that Boise's median rent for a two-bedroom apartment sits at $1,020 per month. Even with the noted (and notable) increase, Boise is still said to have more affordable rents than most other major U.S. cities. Check out BoiseDev's article (here) for all the details.

Although Home Prices Have Risen, Boise is Still Ranked Among the Top 5 Cities for First-Time Homebuyers

With mortgage rates at record lows, and Americans saving more than ever (according to this Bureau of Economic Analysis report), many first-time buyers are considering homeownership. Boise made the top 5 and was noted as having a "high under-45 homeownership rate and strong performance across home market favorability metrics (i.e. price-to-rent ratio, five-year home value appreciation and foreclosure rate)."

Best Cities for Vegetarians & Vegans (hmmm... well, we are the capital of the potato state...!?)

According to this article, approximately ten million U.S. adults are vegan or vegetarian. While it is not always the easiest lifestyle to adopt, some cities and areas make it easier than others. And apparently, Boise does a pretty good job at it! While that hasn't always been the case (just two years ago Boise was ranked as 47th), it is now among the top 10. Read the full article here.
