The newest addition to the ISU Meridian Campus is three weeks ahead of schedule!  The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine will be Idaho’s first medical school and is set to open June 2018.  This is a $34 million project and is focused on being a medical school of the future.  For example, they have plans to build a simulation lab that allows students to practice on virtual patients.  The school also believes that students learn best when there is an 8-1 student-faculty ratio.S  o multiple small group rooms are planned throughout the facility.

Another interesting aspect of the design is the absence of designated faculty and staff lounges.  "The literature says that when adult learners get a chance to interact with faculty and staff, those are extra learning encounters.  It gives us the chance to develop professional behaviors in student positions,” said Robert Hasty, founding dean and chief academic officer of ICOM.

An Atlanta-based contractor is another step closer to finalizing the 11-acre purchase for a sports stadium.

The stadium would be south of downtown on Shoreline Drive and Americana Boulevard.  The consultant estimated a 5,000 seat stadium which would attract more than 235,000 people a year to more than 200 events including; minor-league baseball, college soccer, college baseball, festivals, concerts, etc.

Construction of the stadium would result in almost $1 billion worth of investment and would add approximately 1,240 jobs over 22 years.

The plan is to begin construction late next year and open the stadium by spring of 2020.

An overlooked area of land between Boise and Eagle has caught the attention of developer, James Roberts.

Roberts visualizes a lake with lakefront condos or townhomes to replace the gravel pits that are currently there.  He said there is also room for some multi-family units.

“The property sits within a pocket of mostly unincorporated land surrounded by Garden City, Eagle and Boise. Boise has incorporated some of the land north of Chinden but Roberts is seeking annexation to Garden City, which claims that section of Joplin Road area in its area of impact.

A few acres would go for condos and/or townhomes, likely on a thin strip between the gravel pit/future lake and neighboring fields, Roberts said.

The property has 3,800 feet of Boise River frontage with Boise River Greenbelt on both sides of the river...” -Idaho Business Review Article
