Boise, Idaho: It's Summer Time!

Talk to any Boise local and they’ll tell you how fun summers are.  So if you want to brave the heat in Boise, try out one of the following activities!!

First Thursday:  The First Thursday of each month, from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, businesses in Downtown Boise keep their doors open for food, music, local art and one-of-a-kind fun!

Twilight CriteriumPremier cycling takes over Downtown Boise each summer with the Twilight Criterium.  Over 20,000 spectators fill the streets to see cyclists from around the world in a fast-paced high-stakes cycling race.

This year, is Boise’s 31st year of hosting the Twilight Criterium and is said to be one of the USA’s top Criterium locations. The day is full of racing, including a kid’s race with gold medalist, Kristin Armstrong.

Paddle Boats:  Julia Davis Park is the city’s oldest park and home to many popular summer activities.  One of those activities is the paddle boats.  Rent a shaded pontoon paddle boat or have fun in one of the paddle swans or pelicans.

A 30-minute paddle ride is only $8 and a 60-minute ride is only $12!

Roaring Springs Water ParkNorthwest’s largest waterpark is located in Meridian!  Roaring Springs has a wave pool, float river, two family raft rides, bowl slide, four-lane racing slide, tube slides, kiddie play area, and the new Corkscrew Cavern 360 degree looping waterslide.

Botanical Gardens:  The Botanical Gardens is a private, non-profit “…providing a beautiful environment for garden lovers, tourists, community events, weddings, school tours, and horticultural education.”

For the past 10 years, the Idaho Botanical Gardens has hosted the Outlaw Field Summer Concert Series.

Snake River Stampede:  The Snake River Stampede in Nampa is one of the “Top 10 regular season professional rodeos in the nation” out of 800 rodeos in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.  This year will be the Snake River Stampede’s 102nd year of rodeo excellence.  Each year the rodeo consists of “…bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping and ladies’ barrel racing, plus mutton busting for the kids and the famous Snake River Stampeders Night Light Drill Team.”

Boise Music Festival:  The Boise Music Festival is always a highlight for local music-lovers.  In 8 short years, BMF has grown into a highly anticipated event in the Pacific Northwest.

This year, the main stage consisted of music icons like Flo-Rida, The Band Perry, Austin Mahone, Hello Violet, and Sean Kingston.

Five smaller stages surround the Expo Idaho Fairgrounds where local and regional bands perform.

But the BMF isn’t only music, it also has a carnival, food court, kid’s play area, beer & wine vendors, and the Vendor Village with over 100 local vendors.

Zoo Boise:  Another great activity in Julia Davis Park is Zoo Boise.  Zoo Boise is a service of the City of Boise and is home to over 300 animals from more than 100 species.  During the Summer, the Zoo has some unique programs for kids and their families including:

Snooze at the Zoo:  An overnight event that allows you to see the animals habits, behavior, and care.  During your stay, your family will also participate in activities, games, art projects, and up-close animal encounters.

Run Wild at the Zoo: Kids ages 2 – 11 have the opportunity to run wild through the Zoo!  There are 3 separate race courses and participants will get to attend a breakfast and after party!

Idaho Shakespeare Festival:  Next to the Boise River is a state-of-the-art amphitheater and habitat reserve.  This 770-seat amphitheater is home to the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, which has been a summer hot spot for 41 years.

Another unique aspect of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival?  Picnicking is encouraged.  Bring your own food and drink to enjoy during the show, or purchase drinks, dinner, and dessert from Café Shakespeare.

This season, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival will be showcasing:
-Wait Until Dark
-Hamlet
-The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-A Midsummer Night’s Dream
-The Hound of Bakervilles

Boise Hawks:  Enjoy America’s past-time by watching the Boise Hawks, a minor-league baseball team (farm team for Colorado Rockies).
