Do more than dream: work

Two years of listening to other people's sacrifices and successes on the BP podcast. Two years of reading about other people's adversities and accomplishments in real estate books/blogs. Two years of daydreaming and information overloading. Two years of inaction.

Two years - that's a long time when I look back at them. During this period I quit a boring job, broke up with a girl I loved and road my bicycle across the country.  It was an exciting and eventful two years, yet I was no closer to achieving my real estate goals - or even starting on them for that matter.

Then, about 3 months ago, I saw the sign below taped to the back wall in my mom's office.

Such a simple message on a plain, printed out sign that is undoubtedly missed by most people as they pass through my mom's office.

I myself missed it for the past 10 or so years.  When the sign finally registered with my brain, I read and reread and reread the sign. Every line sent my mind racing. It was the exact message I needed at the exact right time. Messaged received: it was time for me to take action and responsibility for my goals. It was time to stop dreaming about becoming a real estate investor and start doing the work to become one.

As of 3 weeks ago I can finally say that I've taken the first major step on my path to becoming a legitimate real estate investor. As of March 20th, 2017, I became the first employee of a small real estate company operating in the San Diego market. In my role, I work on our marketing campaigns and acquiring houses for our wholesaling line of business.  Do I know what I'm doing? Not exactly. Am I finally putting in the work to become a real estate investor? Yes I am.  Will I be stopped? Heck no!

The first line of the sign "Do more than belong: participate" is the inspiration behind this blog. I've been a member of BP for at least a year, but I just completed my profile today. This blog is my attempt to dive headfirst into the BP community. I will share my real estate journey including any successes, failures, knowledge and stories until I am no longer a "rookie" real estate investor.  Next week's article will be more typical of the blog I hope to write. It will reflect on my first month at my new company and my new life in San Diego.
