Home Repair Cost Guide

From updating old carpets to repairing a roof, it takes money to get a house ready to sell. How much money should home sellers expect to spend on repairs?

Furnace or AC Repair

You may want to consider getting these fixed before selling. You could pay as little as $300 or up to $10,000 for a new furnace, plus installation.

Interior Repairs

It can cost at least $100 per window for replacement, and that’s not even counting the cost of the glass.

Flooring and appliances are other updates you may want to consider.

Plumbing Leaks

A recent plumbing leak could cost you hundreds of dollars, up to around $1000 or more. If you do find any water damage in the house, it could cost $2000 or more to fix. You may need to come up with $500 or $600 to replace a pipe or as much as $3000 for a repair in the sewer line.

Roof Repairs

Most buyers will want any roof repairs to be taken care of before they buy. Expect to spend anywhere from $1000 for a simple repair job to over $10,000 for a full replacement!

Structural Damage

If it’s mold removal that has caused lots of damage, it will cost you to hire a remediation company, plus repair costs. For termite damage or other wood-eating insect damage, you will have to pay for treatment at a few hundred dollars in addition to repairs. You could end up spending $8k-$10k for repairs alone.
