Milwaukee Newbies--What are you willing to suffer for?

"People want to be rich without the risk, without the sacrifice, without the delayed gratification necessary to accumulate wealth."

I have been mentioning this enlightening article to the newer people starting out or interested in the real estate investment world because it speaks to entrepreneurs. Anything phenomenal requires some suffering. The day we are born, someone suffered through labor to bring us here.

The biggest thing people tell me, who spend a load on real estate education or have spent a lot of time in the industry and have yet to get a deal is--"I didn't realize how much work is was going to be" or "I didn't realize how much time it was going to take".

Some continue to spend more on education in their quest to find the magic pill that will eliminate the discipline, time, passion and hard work needed to be successful. If you think there is a real estate genie that would provide a secret formula that will shower you with riches while you enjoy the ride, please put away your wallet now and stop your search for this unicorn. Education is NECESSARY in this business but only powerful when used purposefully.

Decide what you want and then be realistic on what it's going to take to achieve it. After speaking with someone yesterday about their frustration and working through their REI history using Six Sigma improvement methodology, he was able to see that the common thread was his lack of commitment and time. Education will do nothing if you cannot be realistic about the time and commitment you can put in to real estate. After identifying the root cause of his problems, we were able to brainstorm on some income producing activities that would work for the time he has currently to put in to the business without taking away from the quality of his life. I give him credit for just picking up the phone and calling out for help :)

“I am inclined to believe that the person who gives every ounce to do something superbly has an advantage over the person whose capacities may be great but who seems to have no desire to stretch them to their limit.”-Kingman Brewster, former Yale president
