Motivational Monday - Motivation needs to be replenished, frequently!

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily. Zig Zigler

Being a self-storage entrepreneur can be discouraging. Every day you have to convince yourself to get out of bed and work. There is no one looking over your shoulder or watching a timeclock. You have to motivate yourself. So how do you find a way to replenish your motivational cup each day? How do you convince yourself to keep going when you are frequently being told no by sellers or lenders or potential partners?

The first step is to not give up, you need to have a plan in place that you can track every day to remind yourself why you are working so hard today. A lot of people use a vision board to help them stay motivated. Whether this is something that you hang in your office or keep on your desk, it is a constant personal reminder of why you are making a sacrifice today so that you can more fully enjoy your future.

When you make your vision board, make sure that it is balanced. You need to remember that life is not just about self-storage. You want to be able to find balance. What will you do with your personal life, your health, your mental health? Try to find a way to bring them all into harmony.

In addition to a vision board, a regular schedule can help you stay motivated. If you treat your self-storage entrepreneurial vision the same way you would a job, it will help you stay on track. Set up key things that you do every day. Marketing, networking, and following up. You also need to include managing current development projects, managing current properties or managers should all be part of your daily activities. Making sure that you are putting in offers on a regular basis should be part of your routine.

Finally, have visual items around your office that motivate you. You need regular pick me ups so that you can get past being told no again and again. You can be a successful self-storage entrepreneur. When you are finally told yes, and you get that first property or that next property it makes all the hard work worth it. As always, happy investing.
