Motivational Monday Part 11 – The big picture

Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe

Somedays investing in self-storage can seem overwhelming. There are so many people to get lined up on your power team to be successful. And on top of your power team, you have to set up marketing systems with self-storage owners so that they remember that you exist when they want to sell. On top of that you have to network with potential investors and partners. If you already have self-storage properties, then you are trying to manage those properties to make sure that they are cash flowing. Then, somehow you have to find extra time to build your portfolio. It is stressful just reading this.

So how do you do it? How do you juggle more than is possible every single day? You don’t, you can’t. You have to look at the big picture. Self-storage is not a get rich quick scheme. It is more of a crock pot approach. You are trying to build long term wealth; you are not trying to get everything done today.

If you are truly trying to do everything in that first paragraph so that you are getting no sleep or you have no quality of life, then it is time to hire a personal assistant. Or, if you are managing your own property, hire a manager. If you don’t feel like you can afford one, the truth is you can’t afford not to hire one.

If you are that busy, you are stuck. You don’t have time to do the things that will make you more money. Think about it, if you would pay your assistant anywhere from $5-$20 an hour, depending on who you have do the work for you, you can outsource this over the internet, then that is what you are working for. Do you honestly believe that is what you are worth? Because if you spend your time focusing on getting a new self-storage facility that will earn you hundreds of thousands of dollars, that seems like it is worth more than $20 an hour.

Take the time to look at your schedule and outsource the things that you can so that you can focus on the things that matter most. You are the head of your company. You need to work on your business, not in your business. You need to spend the time looking for new properties. Remember the big picture, remember your ultimate goals. Make sure that you are using your time to the fullest so that you can achieve that big picture goal. As always, happy investing.
