How Do I Grow My Self-Storage Empire Through Marketing? Sponsorship

There are many ways that you can get people to think of you first when they are thinking of self-storage. However, you want to make sure that you are targeting the right audience. It is great if everyone at the local college knows that your self-storage facility is close and cost effective for them. A lot of them will use you when the time comes to store their belongings and go home for the summer. However, these are short term tenants. We want long term tenants.

So how do you target local people in your demographic? There are a lot of local companies that are always looking for sponsors. For example, that great coffee place on the corner, they need people to sponsor their coffee cups or the coffee cup sleeves. Ask them if you can sponsor them. Then determine how much exposure you will get for your advertising dollars. People who are getting coffee at that shop probably live close. That means that if they need self-storage, they are going to want to store close to home. However, you need to make sure it is the right demographic. What is the income range of the people who live close to you? Can they afford storage? What is their age range? You can easily find these things out by doing a little research on the internet. If this looks like your type of renters, then talk to the coffee shop owners and see if you can create a partnership.

You can also build awareness of your self-storage facility by sponsoring a local sports team. They need a place to store their equipment. By allowing them to use your self-storage facility to store their equipment, you can get often get advertising for your self-storage facility on equipment, flyers, programs or pamphlets. This is a small expense for such a large amount of brand awareness. This can be a little league team, a local sports team or a professional team. The point is to get exposure for your facility. If you are sponsoring a team, then the people who work with the team will all be coming to your facility to pick up equipment. The parents of that team, if it is a little league team, will all know who you are, and the teams that they play will all become aware of you because of your logo on their uniforms. This is a great way to build awareness of your facility.

Be creative, who can you sponsor? Where can you advertise to maximize exposure and minimize costs? Sponsorship is a way to stay ahead of the competition. Stand out. Let people know that you are the best self-storage facility around. As always, happy investing.
