How to live tax-free for a year

Get ready for a trend that can be the key to your long-term escape strategy after you’ve achieved financial independence.

And something I’m personally considering after planning my escape strategy for the past two years.

There’s a trend happening right now where countries are offering short-term visas to stimulate the local economy.

Here’s the full list of countries and the details on their programs.

But today, I want to focus on the Croatia digital nomad visa. Why Croatia?

Because I spent an entire month in Croatia and had to pinch myself for living in paradise (not the kind of paradise you’d think), imagine waking up every day to:

  • Sun-kissed beaches
  • Hilltop villages
  • UNESCO heritage sites
  • Sparkling waterfalls
  • And my favorite: major tax benefits

Yes, picture the possibility of living in paradise for one year and paying virtually zero taxes.

It’s possible through something called the foreign earned income exclusion. It exempts up to $108,000 in income tax while working abroad.

Not to mention you wouldn’t have to pay for U.S. health insurance which currently costs me a whopping $1000 for a family of three. In Croatia, we’d pay just $80.

This was enough for my husband and me to make plans to head back to Croatia later next year.

Alright, this sounds great and all, but how about housing? These are a few options I found with a quick search:

Here’s a stunning new villa for under $1400/month in Golubovo with a spacious green garden.

Then there’s a residential home with a sea view split under $1400. Seriously—you can’t beat that view!

Or how about Island life, for $1200 per month in a fully furnished home and infinity pool below:.
