Did You Get Past the Gatekeeper?
We are at the halfway point of the year. Who remembers the goals they set out to achieve in 2016?
This is going to be one of those “duh” moments. You’re reading about the key ingredient and you will be underwhelmed by the secret. Beware of the mental dismissal. If you say to yourself, “It isn’t that simple”, or “I already do something kinda like that” then you really need to read on.
When it comes to achieving your goals, there are a few key steps
- Naming
- Remembering
- Doing
Naming
Naming the goals. Yes. Write ‘em down! Haven’t done that yet? Oops! Fix that now. Yes, I mean stop reading this post, grab a journal or paper you’re likely to be able to find next week and get those ideas on paper.
Remembering
Now remembering your goals just got easier since you wrote them down however it’s very easy to stash your journal or piece of paper in a safe spot and forget it. Your memory becomes the gatekeeper. If you can’t get past the gatekeeper (over and over) then it’s highly unlikely you’ll achieve your goals. What are you doing to help you remember your goals? A vision board? A trigger? Bundling your habits? Re-reading your goals daily, weekly, monthly?
Doing
Now all those tips on getting past fear, swallowing frogs, and building habits comes into play.
That was the secret sauce. Make sure you take efforts to remember your goals (daily, weekly, monthly). Otherwise by the end of the year you’ll be no further along in achieving your goals than you are today. There is still plenty of time in 2016 to make meaningful progress towards those ideas you had back in January.
