Post #2 - Up and At 'Em
Investors,
It would be a crying, ironic shame if the blog titled "The Go-Getter's Diary" only had 1 total post. Well, I'm here to save the day! There have been some great revelations in my world of REI the past several days so I'll jump right in.
I went driving for dollars last Saturday through a nearby "city" of about 14,000 people. I'll admit, I felt pretty nerdy with my 3 ring binder of listings and highlighted maps but I'm very glad I did it. Not because I found the perfect investment property or met the perfect mentor on one of the streets. I'm glad because I ACTUALLY went. I took an action step! I got up early on a Saturday while most people were still in dreamland and drove to another town to simply drive around. It sounds crazy but it's a step and I did it. Furthermore, I found a few neighborhoods that I know I'm going to focus on from now on because they fit my Rules of Thumb (read The Ultimate Beginner's Guide). Even though I didn't drive home with 100 properties to analyze, I returned with a clear idea of the niche that I want to focus on... and that is progress. The snowball is starting to roll.
Another discovery was on the BP Podcast with Hal Elrod (author of The Miracle Morning). Hal describes a morning ritual that is pretty epic and yet pretty simple. I've been implementing it for about 10 days and I'm noticing energetic results. Not only has the Miracle Morning helped me squeeze more production out of each day but it has seemed to make the day a little longer (I know it hasn't literally, but it seems that way). I now spend more quality time learning about real estate and searching for deals but also have lots of quality time to spend with my wife and son.
The last revelation this past week was how important a support group is. Two friends and I started a group chat and mainly we talk real estate. We're all at different stages in REI and life but we're all able to bring different perspectives to the conversation. Having that immediate sanity check on an investment idea is great (it's like a mini-Bigger Pockets). Also this week, my wife and I had a pretty good talk about our long-term goals and where REI can benefit us. This is exciting in my house because my wife has no interest in real estate and just hearing her bring it up in a conversation was music to my ears.
That's all for now. I started the BP Podcast about Actionable Steps while I was driving to work. I'll have to replay it and let you know how that goes in my next post.
If you've had a moment when things just seemed to click and make sense, share it with me in the comments.
