When many people think Kansas City they think BBQ, which is no surprise considering our very own Joe’s Kansas City BBQ was named America’s best BBQ restaurant. What they don’t know is that KC has a whole food scene, it is a perfect place for foodies and lovers of sweets. There are gourmet chocolate shops, an array of food trucks, lots of ice cream, and a staple of cinnamon rolls in bakeries and dinners alike. KC cinnamon rolls are good enough to have earned themselves a spot in a Condé Nast Traveler article. Thanks to this article many local businesses got a mention, including Scratch, Corner Café, Heirloom Bakery and Hearth, Rye, and Donut King.
Another article, by the Kansas City Star, explored the gourmet ice cream being made here. This included shops like Glace and Cirque du Sucre. These shops all have unusual flavors and flavor combinations. Some of these include Goat Cheese Sweet Cherry Cream and Organic Rose Petal with Spanish Saffron (from Glace) and Sweet Pea with Mint and Cucumber Raspberry Swirl (from Cirque du Sucre).Being recognized for BBQ, and now cinnamon rolls and ice cream, is part of what makes Kansas City great. This town has a great atmosphere and even better food! Many of the restaurants use farm fresh ingredients from local farms, helping to boost our economy.
