How much do you know about Kansas City?

Kansas City is full of different activities, interests, cultures, and history. There truly is something for everyone. We thought it would be interesting to discuss different features that make Kansas City an amazing place to live and invest. 

1. Kansas City is actually two cities. 

  • The Missouri river separates the two. 
  • Kanas City, Missouri is on the east side of the river while Kansas City, Kansas is to the west.

2. Centrally Located:

  • Kansas City is the nation's most centrally located big city. Due to the surrounding land, or farmland, there is plenty of fresh meat and produce. 

3. New Orleans may be the birthplace of jazz, but Kansas City has their own influence as well. 

4. The first shopping center:

  • The Country Club Plaza was the world's first drive-in shopping center, built in 1923. 

5. Kansas City has culture:

  • Kansas City houses the Kansas City Symphony. 
  • The Renaissance fair- every year, Kansas City hosts the Renaissance's Festival from Labor Day to Columbus Day. 
  • Irish Fest- Every year, late in August, the Irish Fest takes place in Crown Center. 
  • Ernest Hemingway began his career with the Kansas City Star 
  • The National World War I Museum is located in Kansas City 

6. Kansas City has art:

  • The Crossroads Art District houses different galleries and is great to be every first Friday of the month. 
  • Walt Disney began cartooning in Kansas City.  

7. Kansas City has sports:

  • Kansas City, Missouri is home to Kauffman Stadium (where, the baseball team, the Royals play)
  • Kansas City, Kansas is home to Children's Mercy Park (where, the soccer team, Sporting KC play)
  • Kansas City, Missouri is home to the Chiefs, a professional football team. 
  • Kansas City, Kansas (the Kansas Speedway) hosts two annual NASCAR race weekends. 

8. The Amtrak train and the Street Car make it easy to travel around. 

9. FOOD:

  • Nuts for Doughnuts- Kansas City is home of Lamar's Donuts which is ranked high in taste tests by doughnut experts. These experts include police officers, firefighters as one of the best ice cream spots in K.C. 
  • Kansas City's Glacé Artisan Ice-cream houses one of the best ice-cream spots in the United States according to Food and Wine Magazine. 
  • The Happy Meal from McDonalds was first introduced in Kansas City. 
  • Christopher Elbow, a chocolate shop, is said to be one of the best. 

10. Kansas City is hip. 

  • KC ranked #10 on Travel and Leisure's list of "America's best cities for hipsters."

11. Treasure:

  • A boat, the Steamboat Arabia, went down in Missouri in 1856. In 1988, a rescue mission saved many different artifacts. In fact, some of the artifacts include jars of Sweet pickles from the 1800's that are said to still be edible.
