Love/Hate the Player Not The Game

Success or failure in any industry is not determined by the industry but the operator.  Have you ever noticed that every single kind of business has successful and unsuccessful companies?  Many times you will hear struggling companies blaming the market or the industry they are in as to why things are tough.  Granted, industries go through cycles, but some people always seem to find a way to the top no matter what they are doing.  There are also people that do very well when crossing over industries or running multiple companies.  These people are the operators and have found a formula that works.  They know how to make an organization thrive in any type of market or condition.   What are some of the common traits of people like this?  They take responsibility for their actions, they are consistent in implementation and repeating a formula, they are driven, they don't quit and they don't blame others.  If you ever have the chance to spend extended time with a person that runs several successful businesses, be sure to focus on the person and not the business.  The takeaway for you is finding out about the operator.  The kind of business they are running is irrelevant.
