Intern For An Investor - Hard Money Bankers
One of the hardest things to do when starting in real estate investing is finding a path. I remember when I first got into the business I wanted to find a mentor. I felt like I had a lot of knowledge from my research but I couldn't quite understand putting this business into motion. I decided to seek out a local investor and ask him if I could help him. This was the key to getting in the door. My situation was a little different as I already had wholesaled some deals, but I wanted to see what a 'next level' investor did on a day to day. I offered to help the investor with his marketing. I offered to come in for free and I didn't ask for anything in return. I knew that just by being around the operation I would learn a lot. Sure enough, my interning for him ended up working out well. I spent time marketing for his company to find leads and picked up a good bit of information about real estate investing. I think the most significant observation was seeing how full time investors work and that people are actually doing it. There is a part of anyone that is not doing this that needs to see it to believe it. This allowed that part of me to be satisfied. If you want to work with an experienced investor, offer to intern for them and don't ask for anything in return. You will receive it regardless.
