Starting Off

We started looking for a duplex in the city we wanted to move to in November of 2013. After 30+ homes my wife and I fell in love with this 1911 Victorian duplex. The property was not built as a duplex rather it was converted during the Great Depression to provide some extra income for the family. The family that built the home had passed this home along to other family members and at the point we found the home the current family members were making an effort to remodel the home. They had put three years of work in but had trouble making progress since it was jointly owned by the whole family. The undertaking was too much for them and they had decided to let it go. The home was in need of lots of love so we started with a low offer and after some back and forth we were under contract in January of 2014.

The pictures below give a quick as-is tour of the house when we first found the house.

Parlor in the front of the house

The majority of the house was in really good shape. The previous owners had started some projects on the house in hopes of a quick turn around but ran into money issues having to pay for the house. Not shown in the pictures is the ceilings throughout the house which were repaired from plaster that had been cracked over the years. What we can tell now from when we bought the place is they used drywall to cover up the plaster on ceiling in almost all the rooms in the house. They used a professional contractor so it does look very nice. They also removed all the wall paper through out the home. It looked like a lot of messy work some we are glad we didn't have to do it.
