Entering the world of loan origination

As I sit here, exhausted from studying for the upcoming MLO exam, I find it hard not be thankful for the world we live in.  We have the ability to pursue our dreams and we are able to draw the blueprints for our lives.  Very few individuals in the course of history have been able to say the same.  One aspect of this blueprint, at least for me, is becoming a loan originator.

I think I can safely state one thing that draws us all to real estate investing is the control we have, not over others but over our own lives.  I sense the same feeling of control when it comes to loan origination.  Yes, success in the industry is highly correlated with the market and the economy, but isn't that what makes it exciting? Isn't that we are all about here at Bigger Pockets, adapting and overcoming in the never ending pursuit of our dreams?  As a loan originator, in conjunction with most real estate professions, I know the possibilities are limitless.

I view this pursuit not as a final calling but as the next step in the process of real estate investing.  I will have the opportunity to learn the inner workings of the mortgage industry and earn additional capital to invest in the next deal that I seek out. But most importantly I have the opportunity to help others along the way.

You see, for many of us the process of obtaining a mortgage has become routine. We know the steps involved, basic DTI ratios, and what underwriting is going to need. However, for the newly wed couple purchasing their first home, or the family of four that can finally afford to buy instead of rent or even the new investor that just found his first deal, it isn't routine.  Somewhere down the line I hope I can put those newlyweds in their first home, assist that family with the perfect home to raise their children in, and guide that investor through his first deal.

I know in the grand scheme of things a loan originator does not hold the noble merits of police officers, nurses, soldiers, etc.  However, I do believe as real estate professionals we have the ability to impact the world around us and this excites me.
