What I’m Thankful For

With Thanksgiving upon us, it’s a good time to reflect on the things we’re grateful for in life. I mean, that’s sort of the point, right? (Besides eating, of course.)

Like most people, I’m thankful for family and friends, I’m thankful that I have a successful career, and I’m so grateful for the experiences I’ve had that have made me who I am. Yes, even the bad ones, because live and learn!

But right now, I want to give a special Thanksgiving shout-out to the people I work with each and every day who have helped - and continue to help - make my investment endeavors successful. I couldn’t do it without them, and they deserve some recognition.

First, I have an incredible team here in KC that I depend on every single day. Whether they’re scouting potential properties, talking with investors, running numbers, rehabbing homes, or taking care of property management, these folks are the lifeblood of my company and I could not do it without them. They’ve helped make my dreams come true, and they’re doing the same for investors all across the country and even around the world.

I’m also so very thankful to all the people who have shared their knowledge with me over the last 10 years. Having a mentor is one of the best things you can do for yourself as a new investor, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without the advice and guidance that I received from mine. And you know what’s really cool? You can find mentors in the most unlikely places. Seriously, you can learn something from just about anyone. The most successful investors are those who are always learning, absorbing new information wherever they can. When you’re learning, you’re growing, and growth leads to opportunity.

Finally, and I know I mentioned family earlier, but I gotta say it again. My family rocks. They have provided love and support and guidance, and I know I would not be where I am today without them. Real estate investing is very competitive, and it can be extremely stressful, too. It’s so important that investors have a solid network of family or close friends who can support them during the difficult times and celebrate with them during the great times. My family has done exactly that, and I am so appreciative of it.

As you can see, real estate really is a team effort. From the very beginning when you’re first learning the ropes, and then throughout the process, while you’re still learning and working deals and sometimes putting in crazy hours - it takes a team to make it all happen.

So thanks, team. You guys are the best.

Happy Thanksgiving!
