Who I Am and Why I'm Doing It

My name is Simon Shih and I work in the Oil and Gas Industry. I started almost 15 years ago in my early 30s and it's been good to me. The first year I started at the bottom and made $75,000 that year. That's with the 4 months I was off, which is a big deal, since if I don't work I don't get paid. The salary only went up from there and eventually I was making 6 figures consistently.

Now I am about to turn 45, recently married and ready to spend my time with the woman I love at home. The problem is that most of the money I made over the years was spent on god knows what (I know I had fun doing it). My credit is good (over 700), my debt to ratio is under 30%, I have access to  large line of credit, and can come up with 50K in cash fairly easily. So now my goal is to try and transition from a career in traveling up to 10 months a year to a full time real estate investor.

Over the next few months, I will come up with a focus in real estate, write a business plan, read books, and talk to as many people in the business as I can. I am chronicling it because my memory is shit, but also because it might help someone else. It might show someone what to do or not to do when starting a career in real estate.

Wish me luck!

~S
