How to Find The Owner of a Property by Address

Maybe you just finished driving for dollars and need to find the owners of the houses on your list, or maybe you are in your car right now staring at the house in front of you with gutters hanging off the front and ivy growing all over the brick exterior like it’s a trellis (dollar signs!) and wondering, “how do I reach the owner of this property?”

Look no further! This post will serve as a guide to you with free and paid resources on how to search for property owners. I’ve used all of these resources by myself with varying degrees of success and will give you the pros and cons of each.

#1 - LandGlide (Paid monthly subscription)

LandGlide is a mobile application that allows you to find the owner of a property along with their mailing address. It pulls data directly from the local county or town real estate tax record and is updated quarterly. You can search for property parcels by address, owner and you can even zoom in on a map in either street or satellite view to narrow down your search. This is by far one of the best tools out there and I highly recommend using it! Fortunately the subscription cost is relatively low at approximately $20/month.

#2 - Your County’s Real Estate Tax and Assessment Records (Free!)

For the most up-to-date ownership records, I highly recommend checking the local tax and assessment records for the parcel you are seeking to buy. You can search google for “X County real estate taxes” which will usually get you a link to the local record search. Then from there you can usually search by address, tax ID or ownership name. Typically, these websites provide many opportunities to see sales history of the parcel, real estate taxes paid and due and mailing addresses for the owner.

#3 - Driving for Dollars Apps (e.g. DealMachine)

There are many driving for dollars apps out there, but one favorite that allows you to send direct mail right from your phone is called DealMachine. DealMachine allows you to select properties from searching directly for a property directly in the app. It also allows you to search directly on the map, and it's synchronized with your phone's GPS so you can quickly tap on a property parcel, find the owner and start sending mail!
