The Chamber Chronicles: First Encouters
Good morning Tony…
I attended the Chamber’s monthly networking luncheon: the Ambassador Lunch. Approximately 50 people attended. I’ll spare you the details and get straight to the results.
REAL ESTATE RELATED BUSINESSES
Roughly 30% of the represented businesses easily offered something to Real Estate Investors: Real Estate agents and brokers, HVAC and Plumbing, marketing and advertising, insurance companies, banks and lenders, etc. There is no guarantee that every person understands a real estate investor’s goals, objectives, and perspectives. Fortunately, these people have access to other people and resources in their company and sphere of influence that can benefit real estate investors.
ENGAGING CONVERSATIONS
I spoke with one gentleman from the world of insurance (an area I have not looked into while searching for my first four plex). He give me some things to consider. I will need to follow up with him and a couple of agents I know to gain more insight about insurance issues that affect landlords. I noticed a friend (a lender), with another lady who is a real estate agent from one of the neighboring towns.
We three talked about the current market, and the challenges real estate agents face today. It was enlightening to hear of the challenges the local market faces. It sounds as though her local market has flatlined for the last couple of months, and that the number of buyers has noticeably dropped off. We all agreed that those in real estate and lending encounter just about every kind of person imaginable.
AS A SIDE NOTE…
The trio I play drums with received an inquiry from a venue that is a member of TKHCC. Their representative and I swapped stories and business cards. There was an email from his company in my email inbox by the time I finished with lessons. It is not real estate related, but it is the result of networking. There is every reason to believe the same will happen as I continue my real estate investment endeavors.
It is time to go and plan out this week’s socializing and networking activities with others in the Chamber. I am not limiting myself to those in the Chamber. I have meeting this week with a real estate agent who is not part of the Chamber. He says he is good at finding and attracting motivated sellers. We’ll see how that goes…
That’s rumor, and I’m sticking to it!

Eric,
Thanks for sharing your experiences as they relate to your local community networking. I'll be curious to see how that relates to search for your first MF. You had mentioned you are not sure if they understand the investors point of view, it looks like you found your purpose for being there other than getting to know them, that's educating them on what an REI needs to be successful! Best of luck keep us posted.
Respectfully,
Tony Wooldridge
