Goals, Strategies, Actions, and a Grand Design: A Simplified Approach

This blog is self-incriminating. I joined BP around two years ago, and really loved everything going on here. Then my short-attention-span-drummer-brain kicked in... and it’s been ugly since then. I came back to BP recently and started listening to Podcasts while traveling to gigs, rehearsals, lessons, and driving for dollars.

Erik Stark, in Podcast 218, repeated one phrase time and again:

“Stop chasing an opportunity and start working a strategy.”

Opportunities, to the ignorant (those who lack understanding, like the drummer), are the bright, shiny objects that might sabotage our efforts and pull us away from our destination. So here are three things to do to keep yourself on course.

  • Write down clear and concise goal(s). People do not hit what they cannot see. There is a lot more to cover about goals, but this is the essence of it all.
  • Select and study the REI strategy that best fits your lifestyle. There’s a multitude of ways to be successful in real estate. Choose the strategy that appeals to you and stay the course until you hit your target. Design your system and pick your methodology, then…
  • Complete strategy-focused and goal oriented actions every day until you achieve your goals. Get at least one thing done today, while it is called Today. There is no substitute for action. Period!

It is a simplistic explanation. It looks so simple. Goals, Strategy, and Actions, working in concert, are simple when we’re willing to stay the course. However, Goals, Strategies, and Actions become difficult to sustain and maintain when you’re not sure you know why you chose Real Estate in the first place.

  • Are you improving the quality of life for your family?
  • Are you setting yourself up for retirement?
  • Are you trying to change the world?

It doesn't matter.

You will fizzle out when you do not know, understand, and believe in your really BIG ambitions, dream and goals. Once you see your Grand Design, you’ll see where Real Estate Investing Goals, Strategies, and Actions fit into it.

Love,

The Drummer!
