... and Landlord! Rental Real Estate Investing Podcast

... and Landlord Podcast

So I've started a new company (Blue Chariot Media, LLC) and used it to launch a Podcast! My Podcast is named "... and Landlord" - with the premise being that I'm a "Husband, Father, Entrepreneur, Realtor... a long list of other titles and descriptions... and Landlord! Following a roadmap to financial Freedom through residential rental real estate."

----------

On the "... and Landlord" Podcast, I'll relate my story of starting in Real Estate Investing back in January of 2015; and what I've experienced and learned along the way. A listener of my Podcast can expect to be inspired to get into REI (specifically Rental Properties) - if they're not already. Or for those who are, to gain insight, tools and tips at being a "Professional Landlord" - resulting in decreased stress with increased wealth.

Some episodes will be just me (solo) speaking from my experience on a topic of interest. However, as I go along, I'll seek to bring on guests as often as possible to interview - who have an interesting story and valuable experience / knowledge of Rental Property Investing and being a Landlord.

----------

Why a Podcast?

I was inspired to start this Podcast by Joe Fareless of "The Best Ever Real Estate Investing Advice" Podcast. Joe has published a book along with Theo Hicks on the subject of Apartment Syndication. In reading that book and attending his related recent event in Denver (where I also got to meet Brandon Turner of BP), a heavy focus is placed on starting a "Thought Leadership Platform", namely a Podcast - as a path to getting into Apartment Syndication. And while that is my ultimate goal, I also have other more personal reasons for starting this Podcast.

----------

My Fear...

You see, I have a great fear of public speaking, yet I very much also desire to be a public speaker. And since starting my tech business back in 2002 and even more so since getting into REI in 2015, my fear of public speaking and other obstacles have limited my success. In fact, it appears that many of the things I want out of life are positioned just on the other side of my fear and doubts - seemingly blocking my path. I've successfully overcome many of those fears (or mental blocks) to get to where I am now in Business and Real Estate, but fear of public speaking is the only one that manifests itself physically.

Thus, if I want to become the greatest version of myself (and I DO), I MUST overcome this fear of public speaking, which causes my heart to race, sweating, voice cracks, body shakes, etc... whenever I'm forced to speak in front of a room full of people.

----------

Overcoming Fear...

But a funny thing I've since discovered... About 5 years back I had to get up on stage in front of about 100 people to give a quick 6 minute presentation on how I used a certain Server Virtualization software system in a non-standard way to over come some native limitations of the system. And while I was initially a bit nervous during my walk to the stage and the first 30 seconds or so of speaking, I quickly calmed down and presented the entire scenario with little effort or symptoms of nervousness.

This taught me three lessons that I've since confirmed multiple times through additional public speaking... First, I do not get nearly as nervous when speaking extemporaneously - since no one knows exactly what I'm going to say, they have no idea if I left something out or made a mistake. Second, I do not get nearly as nervous if I'm the perceived expert. For example, during that tech software presentation, no one else had even attempted to use the software in the way that I was successfully using it (even the vendor), so I really was the sole-expert in the room, which gave me confidence.

So to the greatest degree possible, speaking mostly unscripted on a subject for which I have great expertise creates the least amount of nervousness. And third, repetition reduces it even further, as each time I force myself out of my comfort zone, it becomes easier every time.

Thus, the "... and Landlord" Podcast will force me to improve both my knowledge and spontaneous  speaking skill, as its said the best way to learn is to teach. And every episode will bring me one step closer to NOT having a fear of public speaking. So my Podcast will help others while also helping myself.

----------

The Podcast...

Days after leaving Joe's event in Denver I was listening to the Cash Flow Guys Podcast with Tyler Sheff (out of Tampa, FL) and he mentioned a coming event called Podfest Expo in Orlando. I quickly registered for this event as a VIP - and while there made the connections and learned all I needed to know to launch the "... and Landlord" Podcast. I registered the Domain Name andLandlord.com (my other company ViUX.com makes that easy), bought my equipment, got the needed software, etc... and the first episode goes live on Tuesday (04/02/2019)!

Episodes of the "... and Landlord" Podcast will be released at least weekly on Tuesday's; however, I may occasionally release multiple episodes during a given week. My ultimate goal is to get to the point of consistently releasing 2 or 3 episodes per week. In that scenario, one episode would be just me speaking on a topic of interest or Landlord / REI news; another would be a guest interview; and the third may be related to matters of general business and may be me solo and/or a guest interview.

----------

The Year to Come...

2019 is positioned to be an amazing year for me and Blue Chariot. I'm certain that I will at least double my rental unit count this year. Additionally I seek to grow my client base for both my Realty and Property Management businesses. The "... and Landlord" Podcast is an important step in that direction, so please subscribe and provide your feedback and rating (ideally 5 stars if you think I deserve it) - wherever you listen to Podcasts or at: https://www.andlandlord.com.

----------

Thanks...

I want to THANK Joe Fareless, Brandon Turner and Tyler Sheff for their words that lead me down a path resulting in the "... and Landlord" Podcast - and all that comes from it. Likewise, I'd also like to THANK fellow REI friends, Garrett White and JoAnna Anderson for multiple conversations about overcoming fear and limiting beliefs. And of course, THANK YOU & LOVE to my biggest supporter - My Wife, Renee.
