My first blog post-

Hello world,

I have decided to make this blog to organize thoughts and share my experiences with my fellow real estate investors.  I would like to share some knowledge that i've gained to date as well as learn from others.  That's the beauty of biggerpockets.   I plan on posting daily so feel free to follow along.  My main topics as of right now is marketing for rehabs, doing rehabs, and also rehab to rent buy and holds.

Since this is my first post I want to keep it very simple with just a brief background of who I am and how I got here.

I was in love with construction and the trades since I was following my dad around the house making repairs, redoing the rooms and all the other fun projects that come along with home ownership.  I grew up saying I want to drive the "digger truck" and every time a big pickup truck went buy with tool boxes and a ladder rack I said "that's what I'm going to drive". (Now I do!)  I have worked in construction since I was about 11 years old cleaning up roof debris on weekends for a roofing crew.  From there I was often the assistant or the laborer.  By the time I was 16 I had a small reputation going for myself with some local contractors as a good set of hands to have and was working with a mason during the summer and doing all kinds of odd jobs with other contractors on weekends throughout the rest of the year.

I graduated high school in the summer of 07 and I was going to a local college getting a degree in doing the least amount of school work possible to pass.  Bounced around with that for a bit and became a part time student and eventually dropped out all together.  At the time I was working as a supervisor for UPS on the night shift and learned all about how corporate america also wasn't for me so I quit that too.  So from there I was offered a decent desk job for a logistics company thanks to my experience with UPS and after a whopping 11 months I quit that too and said desk jobs aren't for me.

In 09 I guess it would be I had to take a step back and see where I was.   Corporate America is not for me, College is not for me, and a desk job isn't for me.  Back to construction I go!!  I have done a lot of side work with other contractors over this period of time since I worked nights at UPS then had a gap between that and the desk job but this is the first time I decided I'm going to make a career out of it.  I don't think my parents or a lot of people I knew wanted me to go the construction route for one reason or another but hey, I gave the other options a fair shot.

I worked for a general contractor in my area for the next couple years until we had a falling out and I remembered how much I hated having a boss.  I took a job with an HOA for a short time while I got my own company started which I still run today called Behan Construction Services where I am a general contractor with a small team specializing in residential renovations and repairs.

What the hell does this have to do with real estate?

I have wanted to flip houses since high school when I first found out it even existed.  My good friend's grandmother was a real estate agent who has done a few flips.  From this point on it was destiny but how the heck does a high school student buy a house and flip it.  I never really started getting serious about it until a couple years back doing commercial renovations in nursing homes.  We would basically flip nursing homes and it brought back my dream of flipping houses.  I started learning everything I could, found bigger pockets, read some good books, and did everything I could to prepare for life as a successful real estate investor.

One thing lead to another I quit some jobs created a GC business to start flipping houses for other investors to find my way into being an investor myself.  I flipped my first house back in November (for myself as the investor) and slowly but surely I have been generating more and more leads and getting better and better as an investor.  I currently have another house under contract that will be my next flip and a few offers on what could be number 3.

That's the short (or at least an attempt to make it short) story of how I got here today.
