My First Sale
Dear BP,
It has been a while since you have heard from me, and I apologize. I guess I took a hiatus from writing these, but after reading a few that I had written, I realized they were good for my soul.
I wanted to tell you a story about my first sale as a real estate agent. I knew when I got into the game that I wanted to work with and become a real estate investor; I didn’t quite understand how difficult that would be. My first client came from a call while I was working floor duty at my office. I showed her a few houses over the next couple weeks and we found a nice fixer upper in the town just north of us. We put the offer in, got the counter, back and forth and it was all ok. It actually went pretty smoothly, I’m not sure what I was so afraid of!
We closed ten days after getting an accepted offer (that’s the beauty of cash) and I got my check for my commission deposited into my bank account. This was in January. That check sat in my bank account for about 3 months because I couldn’t decide how to spend it. It slowly got spent here and there over the next few months until finally it was gone. I now need to sell another house.
Looking back, I wish I had reinvested 100% of that money back into marketing. I have been in the business for over a year now (man it doesn’t seem like that long already, time flies when you’re having fun). Marketing is the number 1 way to make money in any sales job. The more people you touch, the more likely you are to find success.
My confidence should have been boosted after this first sale, but unfortunately, I must’ve have felt “I sold a house, that’s good enough.” It’s time to get back on the horse and get back to selling. I have bills to pay and work to do. If I want to grow this empire, I need to put in the work.
Time to figure out how much my sweat is worth.
