How to Become a Licensed Real Estate Agent in QLD

House Purchase 1019764 960 720

A career in real estate could be an interesting and exciting way to make money and help people in your community. However, there is a lot to learn about helping others conduct real estate transactions before you can do so on your own or do so effectively even with an established broker. What are some of the criteria to become a licensed and effective real estate agent in Queensland?

How to Become a Licensed Real Estate Agent

If you want to get a real estate license, you must first consider what you would like to do with it. Those who want to work with an established broker will only need a certificate of registration. Those who want to own or manage their own real estate operation will need the full Queensland license. The REAA offers resources that put you on the fast track to completing the credits needed to get your license and then complete the post-course work that will need to be done.

Should You Get a Certificate of Registration or a Full License?

Just because you can get a full license doesn't necessarily mean you should. It also doesn't mean that you wouldn't benefit from working with a broker for a year or two. Attaching yourself to an established brand can make it easier to get your name out to new clients.

What About the Other Requirements for Real Estate Professionals?

As in any other profession, there is a difference between what you learn in theory and what you need to know when practicing your craft. To be a good agent, you will need to have excellent organization skills as well as the ability to work well within a team. You should also be ready to work hard to develop new relationships and build your client list. This can take up to a year or longer, and your income may be comprised solely of commissions while working with a broker. Therefore, you may need to rely on savings or take extra freelancing work or part-time work for the first few months.

How to Make More Money Quickly

The amount of money you make each year depends mostly on how hard you are willing to work and how well you can market yourself and your properties. For instance, it may be a good idea to learn how to up sale your customers. This is the act of selling them related goods or services that they may want for extra profit. While the customer doesn't necessarily need these extra goods or services, they can make the home more comfortable or provide peace of mind that they have gotten the best deal on their new home.

If you are thinking about becoming a real estate agent in Queensland, it is important to know exactly what you are getting into. Understanding your training requirements as well as what you will face when you first start out could help you make an informed decision that is best for you and others who may rely on your income.
