Taking Classes and Determining A Path
Apparently there is a thing called a quarter life crisis now. Maybe it always existed or maybe it's something recent due to life having too many options to choose from. That wall smacked me in the face right on time, right around my 25th birthday. I had been working a variety of different jobs since high school and knocked each one off the list. Having no degree made things a little more difficult, but I used connections and finally settled into my current full time position. To keep it simple I sit at a computer all day. It may be a great position for lots of people, but overall it just drags for someone who would rather be out and about socializing.
After pondering many different options I kept coming back around to 2. Stick with what I was doing and increase the income it generated or go in a completely different direction and make my life a little more interesting. It gets sad when you feel left out of conversations because your wife is an OR nurse with awesomely gross stories and no one wants to hear about some sweet creative coding. The decision was easy one and surprisingly my wife was on board.
In January I signed up for my classes to become a real estate agent. Going in I had a cocky attitude about my level of knowledge from completing a MIND BLOWING 2 DEALS! Needless to say I was put back in my place once I realized I didn't know the law side of things. To top it off I had many folks who were highly experienced in the business telling me I would still come out of class looking like a wide eyed 6th grader. Those comments have stuck with me as the classes progressed and are in the forefront of my mind as the end of it all nears.
The classes cover a wide range of topics and some stick with you while others love to just slip out of your head right after the quiz. Do you know what "Escheat" means? You probably do now after Googling it, but it's one of the vocabulary terms they expect you to remember for testing. Imagine hours of going over seemingly gibberish terms like that and you've got the first 3rd of classes to become and agent in Colorado.
Up to this point the classes have been enlightening and sometimes dreadfully long, but they are the first step to my new career. I keep my excitement high by reading posts online and obsessing over the current market. The next step is a big one, but what I hope will be a great one.
