Why I listen to the Bigger Pocket’s podcast

Normal 1422316883 Skinning

Although I do receive the occasional financing tip and do get some nifty ideas from hearing about different investor strategies, I have to admit that I am no longer listing to the podcast primarily for educational purposes. I originally did, but no longer. Mainly, I listen for inspiration. Honestly, I think the stories have given me courage that I wouldn’t have gotten from any other source. I just can’t get enough of the success stories! Why you ask? Because the world is full of nay sayers!

It is unlikely that your friends with full time corporate jobs are going to be a source of encouragement! How is your slum lording business going? Never gets old does it fellas.

How about a big heaping helping of skepticism from your father in law at Thanksgiving? I thought I was enjoying some green bean casserole with the crunchy onions on top.

You can just smell the fear of non-conformity with some people. What if things don’t work out? Don’t you remember what happened in 2008?  It can be tiring!

Although the car is the most common place for me to listen to the podcast, I enjoy listening while riding my road bike in the summer or while skinning up a mountain in the winter. I fully admit that I crank the bike pedals a bit harder if the podcast is extremely motivational. Not just because I think about how I might gain more success, but also because it is just flat out fun to hear about people making positive change in their lives. It is also comforting to know that there are other people like you in a world that is not always accepting. Without all the hype is part of the Bigger Pockets motto. Hype has done nothing for me, but positive thoughts have done wonders.

  1. I listen to all the podcast. When I joined Bigger Pockets They were around show 45 and I went back and listed to all of the previously recorded one because they have so much value. I know Josh says it on a lot of the podcast and it is very true that you will learn something new on each podcast. Even it it is one of the most experienced guest to someone that is just beginning and they share a story of how they have learned form a mistake. It will be extremely beneficial to anyone who is willing to listen. Thank you for all the podcasts!!!

  2. Thanks for the positive comments!  I value the biggerpockets community experience and look forward to helping others.  Being a former commercial real estate lender and appriaser, keep an eye out for a series of posts that cover commercial topics.

  3. Nice article!  I typically listen when traveling in the car.  My wife usually puts her head phones in and starts watching some Netflix, but she is kind enough to jot down notes when I nudge her hard enough.  Definitely agree with you on the motivational part!

    Cheers,
    Mark

  4. I'm glad we can help motivate, Mark!

  5. Nice post Mark - totally agree.  I think one of the things that really "makes it come alive" is when you listen to a podcast (or read a recent blog posting) and then can hang out with a couple of friends who also are BP'ers and apply it to what you are doing and get feedback. Yes, the bike ride podcast motivates me, but the communal support and accountability that comes from a close local community of BP'ers is what drives my eventual action.

Oh, and I think the solution to the father-in-law's skeptism is to tell him that you quit your job and that since he did such a good job raising your wife, she can be the primary breadwinner for the family, so you can focus on your real estate dreams:)
