Goals without deadlines are just dreams.

Goals. I find goals to be extremely important - they give you a target to aim at, and if done right, push you to accomplish more than you normally could. I have always been someone to set a goal and then do whatever I need to so that I reach that goal. The problem is, I never took too much time figuring out why I set those goals. That is changing this year.

Before posting this, my wife and I sat down and officially wrote down our top 3 goals for the year 2015. Now we both have talked about what we wanted to accomplish, but we actually got out the white board and made it official. Some things we found useful doing this together was that we could push one another to do just a little better, be a little clearer, have a little more focus, set a little tighter deadline, have a very strong next actionable step. Whew! It feels like some rocks fell off my shoulders. That is the beauty of a goal - they are the clarifying target you aim for.

What are our goals do you ask? Well, I don't mind sharing mine but you'll have to ask my wife if you want to get hers!

  • Generate $4,000 a month in passive income.
    • Action step: Have an accepted offer for the next investment property by 2/8/15
  • Read 52 Books.
    • Action step: Read "Miracle Morning" by 1/29 (I'm a little behind on this goal so I will be reading at a slightly faster pace)
  • Write 52 Bog Posts.
    • Write a post NOW!

As you can see, each of these relates to my ultimate goals of becoming a successful real estate investor. Each goal is something I want to build a foundation of habits that make doing what I need and want to do easier, with less mistakes. Each of them is a little ambitious designed to push me outside of my comfort level so that I may grow. I think this is something everyone can do and improve upon. This is a great first step to not only investing, but anything that you want to accomplish. So you can take action, I believe there are 3 main things that are required for a goal: they must be important to you, they must be challenging, they must have a measurable result with a deadline. Let me know what you think.

"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." -Lewis Carol

  1. I agree 100% Michael! Goals are a must for anyone who wishes to succeed. Last year I set 5 goals and hit them all. This year I doubled them to ten. Not only do I write them down, I voice record them and also use a vision board. Instant motivation when you can not only hear your dreams.....but sea them also!

Wonderful inspiration you are sharing, please keep it up! Many of us will be following to watch you hit your marks! THANKS!
