Taking action brings opportunities

Hello Bigger Pockets today I am starting this blog as a way to share random thoughts as well as information I learn as I learn real estate investing...

I am a 20 year old college student with a low paying part time job ($9.00 an hour) and it sucks. I never liked putting in the work hours to be rewarded with around $300 every two weeks it makes no sense to me. So after years of saying I'm going to do it one day I decided to take action, and it has opened a lot of interesting opportunities for me because of that. I've  always known that it works that way though. In High School my hobby was finding great deals on video games and making a profit it came easy for me (because I've known the market all my life) but with my hobby came active searching. Every couple of days I would visit my two favorite thrift stores and I've found great deals pretty frequently with my most profitable one being a purchase of a Steel Battalion controller that I only paid $10 for (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&...) my friends would constantly tell me "man you are lucky" but I would always tell them I am not lucky I just look.

I went off on that small story to come to this point. I'm taking action in Real Estate now I learn something new every day, and I actively talk about it with who ever I can. This has lead me to meet some successful people in the industry. A few days ago because of me taking action I went to a networking event and had the pleasure to talk with investors with millions in their portfolio as well as newbies like myself it was amazing, and if I had never taken action I wouldn't have that experience today.

Another situation happened just yesterday. I had not gotten payed yet, and my bank account was at $0 so paying for the train to go home from school was not possible but an employee approached me and started asking questions about where I was coming from (I told him school), he asked about my major (Business Administration), and from there he asked me what type of business do I want to run and I told him a Real Estate business. The interesting thing about that is that he was interested as well and we had a brief but cool conversation about Real Estate. He let me go through after but again I never would've known or met this guy if I hadn't taken action and started talking about it.

Today is the final example I have for you today and this opportunity happened not because of me but because my family members know that I am learning about Real Estate... My sister works at a coffee shop, and one of her regulars came, they started talking and he brought up that he works in Real Estate (he was actually an agent) hearing Real Estate she instantly brought up me, and she was told to give me his business card. I haven't called yet as of this writing but again I cannot stress this enough if I had not taken action and if I didn't show that I was serious about this I wouldn't have these random opportunities or encounters coming to me as they are now.

Thank you guys for reading my first blog post please forgive me if I was all over the place, I'm not used to blogging yet but I hope this topic was interesting enough for you guys. I'll see you in the next one
