Happy New Year... 2010!

I don’t know about each of you, but this past year has gone by so fast that it is hard to believe that we are looking at 2010 in just a couple of days.  And with the realization that many of the goals I established last year have come to fruition, I know also that I must clearly define what I intend to accomplish in the next 12 months so that I can go out and get them done.

And in case you are wondering how easy it is to accomplish your goals… I have found it to be this simple… define what you want to accomplish, write it down and then, “Just Freakin’ Do It!”  It really is that simple!

“Pete,” you say, “so if it really is that simple, why don’t more people accomplish what they “claim” they want?”  From my perspective, the answer is very simple and comes down to one word… You!

We stop ourselves before we even have a chance to get started.  Often times we say we want something, but what we are really saying is… “I want that only...  if it is easy - or I want it if I don’t have to grow personally - or take a calculated risk - or as long as no one says I can’t do that - or if I decide to let my life get in the way of my goals -  or, I am just SCARED!”

So… we end up talking ourselves out of the game (what we want) because it seemed so easy when we were thinking about it today, but now that we find ourselves in the first or second month of 2010, we really don’t know what we could have been thinking.  We just can’t find the time!  No one is willing to help me!  We may lose something if we try that! And on… and on… and on…go the “stories” (read that as “excuses”).

Ask yourself realistically, have you ever taken yourself out of the game?  Your game!  The one where you are the only player, write all of the rules, define how the game is played, determine the score and decide when it is over!  If you have, then consider that every time you establish a goal and don’t complete it, for whatever reason, you are taking yourself out of the game.  YOUR GAME!

I will ask each of you then… are you satisfied with the game plan you laid out at this time last year and how you executed it?  Have you truly given yourself a chance to excel at what you claimed you wanted?  Or have you allowed the opponent, YOUR OWN MIND, to take you out of your game?

If you find yourself in this position, the really nice thing about this time of year is that you get to start the game over.  You get to come up with an entirely new game plan and play that game like it was the championship!  So get out there and establish the game plan that will get you the life you want!  Don’t take the easy way out… define what you want, write it down and, then, it really is as simple as… Just Freaking Do It!

For those of you who are satisfied with your game plan and your performance over this past year, I congratulate you for a job well done.  Everybody has something to be proud of this year, no matter how small. But don’t rely on me or anyone else to congratulate you….

Stand in front of a mirror or out in the middle of the street and jump up and down and celebrate!

You deserve it!  And now that you know what it feels like to grow into your goals… you will find it so much easier to establish more and more challenging goals and rejoice in their accomplishment throughout the coming year.

I know you have heard me say this many times… but it seems like this is a very appropriate time to say this at this time…

HOW YOU DO ANYTHING… IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING!

What you’re reading here may seem simple, and it is – but it’s also crucial. Skip these fundamentals, and you will find yourself facing the same old challenges, habits and patterrns. So do something now to put these fundamentals into practice!

Now get out there and celebrate the coming New Year and accept my sincerest hope that each and every one of you reading this post will enjoy a truly prosperous 2010 and that you will share your prosperity with those who have not yet figured out how to win at their GAME of life!

Happy New Year 2010,

Peter R. Giardini

  1. Another great post Peter, thx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. WOW! Peter, I felt like I was sitting in on a pre-game speech. Hey, wait. I was! That was great. I know personally, that the only thing that ever stands in my way is.....ME. So, Sometimes I must take myself aside and have a talk about not getting in my own way. As crazy as it sounds, it totally works. But, once again, thanks for the GREAT POST!
