I am thankful for... & Greedy corporations

I had a great holiday & weekend, I hope you did as well.

I did work this weekend although I took a lighter work load then a normal weekend (Mostly because nobody wanted to look at real estate this weekend), I am thankful that I was able to enjoy the holiday with my family and most of the weekend as well. That leads me into what my mind was on most of the last 4 days...

Greedy Corporations, while most people look at black Friday or now what most people call black weekend as a way to score killer deals on that new flat screen or presents that someone in the family has been asking for but at what cost?

The shopping has now started in the morning on Thanksgiving at some retail stores and most opening up between 4pm & 6pm for their door buster deals, the problem is that we as consumers show up with our pockets full of cash waiting to pay these greedy corporations so they can make their employees work on a national holiday. That's right while I was sitting on my butt watching my Cowboys get spanked by our division rivals and figuring out how much more food I can make room for there were many fantastic people around the country that had to leave their families to go work and mind you they have to be there a few hours before to setup everything, but you know who was not working at that time? The VP's and CEO's of those companies where at home with their families enjoying themselves while their hard working employees had to go slave for them to make their year end bonuses better.

Not too long ago I was one of those slaves that had to work 12-16 hour days so someone who wears a suit and probably golfs more then they work can be making bigger and bigger paychecks, when will it stop? Pretty soon we might as well call our beloved holiday the shopping day not the turkey day, it would stop really fast if we as consumers didn't show up but will that ever happen? God knows we need to save $25 on that new IPAD or a few hundred dollars on a new TV, my heart goes out to those hard working folks who had to slave so their rich CEO can pad his wallet a little more.

This really has nothing to do with Real Estate but my only hope is someone will share it and it may end up on the desk of one of those rich CEO's or VP's and maybe they will say to them selves maybe we won't be open next year because our frontline employees are more important then me making more money, more then likely it is a pipe dream but I do feel sorry for those people who had to work on Thanksgiving because we all know what is important in the world..

Family & Friends

Happy Holidays

  1. Thanks for your thoughts Ian.  I don't think we will ever see employers giving on iota for their employees, but I think they should.  It will have to fall more on the consumer as you mention to stop wasting their money on these supposed "deals".
