Four Costs to Consider When Choosing Where to Move

Small 1397505856 Moving Costs

Moving is expensive. There are a lot of hidden costs to consider before making the big decision. Here are five costs to keep in mind.

1 Income

Most people move due to a change in vocation. Is your new salary significantly higher, or at least higher enough to justify the move? Make sure to take cost of living (which we'll discuss more later) into account. If you are moving for different reasons, research before you move to feel comfortable in the job market in which you are moving to.

2 Cost of living

In some areas, the cost of living is out of control. This is true when looking at coastal cities in both California and the east coast. To understand this further, go online and look for an apartment or house. With this, you can see if you can afford the cost of living.

3 Commute

When figuring out commuting costs, factor in fuel, train tickets, and other traveling costs. These will detract from the great job you're moving for. If you travel a long way, you will have to think of the lost time spent in your car.

4 Taxes

Different states have different taxes. You may think you are earning one salary, but then receive your paycheck complete with deductions and realize you aren't earning nearly as much as you thought you were. Keep taxes in mind as you determine your salary.

5 Moving Costs

The actual act of moving costs plenty. Are you going to hire movers? Rent a truck? Don't forget these major expenses.
