Refurbished Wood: Six Carpentry Ideas to Increase Home Value

Small 1395960466 Refurbished Wood

Whether you are selling your house or flipping another one, it's important to gain as much value as you can. One way to do this is by refurbishing wood surfaces. Wood that is old or warn will scare off home buyers and out-of-date colors don't do you any favors either. Here are six ideas to improve the value of your home with wood.

1 Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors can look really beaten up after awhile. Refinish hardwood floors by sanding and staining. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, hire a professional to do it right. Hardwood is a good replacement for outdated linoleum tiles.

2 Wooden staircase

A staircase can be a function of the home to get from one floor to the other, or it can be a huge statement in the middle of your home that adds character and makes your home look bigger. Add a custom banister, refinish the one that is there, and remove any brass hardware. Your staircase doesn't have to be boring in the corner. It can stand out as a beautiful piece of the home all on its own.

3 New cabinets

Kitchen and bathroom cabinets take a beating. “A simple kitchen or bathroom remodel can increase the value of a home by thousands of dollars,” explains 1A Contracting, a Long Island Carpentry company. They get dirty, warn, scratched, and abused. New cabinets are ideal, but if that is not possible you can give them a facelift. You can either stain them a dark color or add a new coat of paint. Replace the hardware to update and modernize them.

4 Outdoor deck

A deck significantly adds value to your home. You can create a whole other space to entertain and enjoy the home. Make sure to seal the deck off to prepare for weather. Add benches and chairs to decorate it and add some flair. This is an easy way to update landscape as well as increase space in the home.

5 Framing

Frame everything. Windows, rooms, posters, pictures. Frames add definition to the home and items look more luxurious and expensive. You don't have to spend a lot of money on expensive wood. Just make sure you stain or paint it to match the home décor.

6 Crown Molding

In the spirit of framing everything, frame your rooms as well. You can buy crown molding at the home improvement store. Make sure you know how to cut the angles at the corners correctly. Just like frames around windows and mirrors, crown molding will add a more expensive look to the home.

When you use refurbished wood, you can increase the value of your home drastically. Look at your home and work on refurbishing the wood you can.
