Protect Your Property: Six Tricks to Packing for Your Move

Small 1398726034 Moving

Everybody moves at some point in there life, and most people hate to do it. Moving doesn’t have to be so painful, though. By following a few simple tricks and making sure to plan ahead instead of waiting until the last minute, any move can be simple and painless.

1 Label, Label, Label!

One of the most helpful things someone can do to be organized during a move is to label things properly with the room they go in. The labels should be on the sides, so they are visible when boxes are stacked up. Pack by room, because unpacking by room later is easier than running all over.

2 Keep a Master List

Label all the boxes with numbers and keep a master list during the move. This will ensure that all the boxes are accounted for and keep from advertising expensive box contents to movers.

3 Make Items Work Together

Packing dishes securely is important, but those extra packing materials can add cost to a move. When possible, use items together for maximum efficiency. Pack T-shirts and sweaters between plates to keep the dishes safe and pack two items into that space.

4 The Wire Jungle

Before taking apart an entertainment set-up, take a picture or draw a diagram of the back of all electronics. This will help when it comes time to set it all back up again. In addition, wrap a piece of painter’s tape around each cord and label it with the device it works for and where it plugs in.

5 Save Space

Truck rentals cost money, and the bigger the truck the more it costs. Packing efficiently means doing everything possible to save space. Make sure that boxes are full. This ensures no wasted space, but it will also keep items from shifting and breaking during the move. Space Bags are a great way to save space with clothes. They pack nicely and can be used to separate out of season clothes that don’t need to be unpacked right away.

6 Keep Needed Items Handy

When moving, pack an overnight bag with essentials that will be needed soon. That ensures no one is running out to the store for a toothbrush the next morning. Also, keep a separate box with items like box cutters and trash bags that will be useful while unpacking everything else.

Move doesn’t have to be a four letter word. By following these simple tricks, and making sure to plan and leave plenty of time, anyone can move to their next home without the hassle. You can also get help from moving companies such as Rapid Movers.
