Damn the Recession. 6 years old.

"Damn the Recession" is the title of my Facebook business page. It was started nearly 6 years ago after a speaker challenged a group of real estate investors and people considering becoming real estate investors to take action. He pointed out that even though starting a Facebook page was free that he doubted if anyone would do it. He was incorrect. I did. (When I told him that I had accepted his challenge he was not that surprised.)

The day this page launched Southeast Michigan was fully involved in the real estate melt down. Though housing prices here had not gained anywhere near as much as in other areas of the Country we did participate fully in the crash. Prices quickly fell 30%, 50% and more. My existing portfolio of rental houses was worth considerably less than I had paid for it. (I rarely purchased a house with less than a 25% down payment so I was able to hold on for the recovery which eventually came.) The spirit of the page was that even though we could not control the general economy we could, most definitely, control our personal economy. I had considerable losses but the houses I purchased during the three or four years after the meltdown provided profits that more than covered the losses. I learned that markets always cycle, that one can profit in all cycles but one must use different techniques. The deals I completed introduced me to strategies I may not have imagined had such an economic shift not occurred. The partnerships I made will, I hope, be active for years to come.

If you have not yet started a Facebook business page why not do so today? Consider starting a blog to focus your thoughts and help bring yourself some accountability. Start your journey and take it seriously—you have no idea where it may lead.

Below is the first post on my fb page:

"Damn the Recession! Full speed ahead." Admiral David G. Farragut (paraphrased). Yes, we are in a recession. I know, full well, we are in a recession. This page is about what we are doing about it. I will share some of my real estate stories and strategies because that is what I know. Feel free to post and share your own stories. The only exception is NO WHINING! If you whine your posts will be deleted.

  1. Love the Can Do attitude!

    1. Thanks @Keri Middaugh. You are most welcome to stop by the "Damn the Recession" page.

  2. I just might have to start my own business FB page. Thanks for sharing!

    1. @Todd Vernon C.,  FB has changed their algorithms so it is harder to build a base now but I haven't found any downside to doing so. I do business with people who first found me through my website. Feel free to stop by if you'd like to see mine: www.facebook.com/DamnTheRecession .
