The week the universe through me 5 curveballs - Oklahoma City Tornados
This last week in Oklahoma City has been an non-stop barrage of bad weather events that have impacted my business. It started out with a tornado that hit a mobile home that I had just finished rehabbing.
The tornado came through on May 6th. Luckily, the tornado didn't do too much damage to my trailer, but that wasn't the case for other folks in the trailer park. Massive hail and 10 inches of rain caused a 3 foot flood to tear through the trailer park. Trailers turned into rafts, tennis ball size hail punctured roofs, and mobile homes were destroyed by high winds.
Insurance Claim #1
I had my favorite car parked in front of the trailer, a 2001 Toyota Celica that meant the world to me. This car was my ice-cream getter and I had all intentions of giving this car to my son when he turned 16 (he's 2). I put less than 100 miles a year on it. Needless to say, flood, hail, and winds totaled the car.
Insurance Claim #2
Friday May 8th, another large storm system came through OKC. This one had massive hail and wind that beat the back door of my trailer in and caused water damage to walls, carpets, and ceiling. We just took our final fans and dehumidifier out today on May 15th. Luckily, the trailer wasn't rented yet.
Insurance Claim #3
That same storm system hit my primary residence that we just moved into 3 weeks ago. This storm packed a punch and totaled my roof. The massive amount of rain on top of the 10 inches we already received, caused water to pull into my back yard and flood my back bedroom. My builder incorrectly graded my back yard, but is holding to his word that he will fix the problem.
Insurance Claim #4 and 5
Since we were just moving into the house, our garage is full of boxes. My truck and my wife's minivan look like golf balls were rained upon them and have hundreds of hail hits. I haven't even had time to take these vehicles to the claim center yet, life has just been too crazy.
How Oklahoma Weather has affected me?
Well of course I don't have the time to wholesale properties right now, I'm simply too busy with my day job and going through the claim process. My main goal is to get my trailer completed and ready to rent by the end of this month. This trailer is a 2 bed/1 bath and is remodeled beautifully! I can't wait to see how happy someone is with this property.
I'm keeping my head up. It was depressing to see everything get destroyed, but I know that if I keep pressing forward I will keep finding more success.
